The Revelations of St Birgitta of Sweden
An important and lasting contribution to the Birgitta Jubilee is a new project which will make available for the first time the entire collection of the Revelations in English.
The editors and translators are Stephan Borgehammar (Lund), Bridget Morris (York), and Denis Searby (Stockholm). The project has been generously supported by Riksbankens Jubileumsfond, and the publisher is Oxford University Press, New York. The first volume will appear in 2004, and the subsequent three volumes at two-year intervals thereafter. This translation will appeal to readers and researchers with an interest in medieval history, history of religion, women's studies, hagiography, art history, ecclesiastical history, etc. It will be the standard translation of the Revelations for years to come, and it is certain to stimulate further new research with international dimensions outside Sweden. The four volumes will contain the following: Volume 1: General Introduction, Book I, II, III Volym 2: Book IV, V Volym 3: Book VI, VII, VIII Volym 4: Extravagantes, Quattuor Oraciones, Sermo Angelicus, Regula Salvatoris, and a place-, name- and subject-index. The translation is based on the recently completed critical edition, published by Kungl. Vitterhets, Historie och Antikvitets Akademien.
